Today we are happy to announce the release of two features focused specifically on large enterprise needs: Group Sharing and Autocomplete.
Up until now, sharing a folder with a team required you to list their exact email addresses, one by one. However, this method isn’t foolproof – misspellings are always a possibility – and especially for larger organizations with many new team members, not everyone knows everybody else’s email address.
As some of the organizations we work with have thousands and tens of thousands of employees, we wanted to provide a simpler way to invite large groups of people.
A group is a great shortcut to sharing a folder with many coworkers all in one go.
AeroFS Groups are sets of users that can be set up by the organization administrator to let groups of people share information with each other easily. Once you are a member of a group, you are automatically invited to join any of the shared folders that it joins or it was already a part of. People can also be members of multiple groups at the same time.
If you are a member of a shared folder both individually and by way of a group, your role within the shared folder becomes the greater of your own and your group’s role. For example, if your personal permissions are that of a Viewer, but your groups permissions are that of an Editor, you will have the rights of an Editor within the shared folder.
Of course, all this is only true for as long as you are a member of the group, if an administrator removes you from the group, you also lose access to the group’s shared folders and permissions.
For larger organizations that organize their teams through an Active Directory (AD) or Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) deployment, we have also included LDAP Group Synchronization; a way for AeroFS to create groups that automatically mirror your LDAP tree’s groups and them keep them in sync with any changes you make.
Autocomplete allows you to stop guessing your coworkers email addresses, helps prevent accidental typos, and speeds up adding members to your shared folder. Once you start adding people to a shared folder, AeroFS will automatically suggest users and groups that match users you’ve invited to shared folders in the past.
All About The Experience
As we grow with our customers, we continuously improve the experience of our product. These are two of many features that will provide the best experience in private cloud collaboration.
